Who can foster?

Fostering is open to people from any background, regardless of their ethnicity, religion, culture, sexuality, gender identity, marital status and the type of home they live in.

The main criteria for fostering with us is that:

  • You are aged 21 or over (there is no upper age limit)
  • You have a spare bedroom in your home
  • You are a UK citizen or have leave to remain
  • You are prepared to open your home and heart 
 

Qualities that make a good foster carer

  • Patience, empathy, understanding and compassion
  • Being non-judgemental, open-minded and accepting
  • Good sense of humour and an ability to have fun!

Your home and lifestyle

  • You can foster if you rent your home, provided it has at least one spare bedroom
  • You can be working, retired, or unemployed
  • You can foster if you already have children living with you

  • You can foster and work, provided you are available to meet the needs of any children or young people you will be looking after
  • You can foster if you have pets (as long as they are safe around children)
  • You can foster if you don’t have children of your own
