Support and training for Plymouth City Council foster carers

We are dedicated to providing the best local support possible for our foster carers.

Fostering is very rewarding but can also be quite challenging at times, which is why help is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year

We provide the following:

  • A dedicated supporting social worker who will meet you regularly to offer support and guidance, making sure you have everything you need to help the children in your care
  • Out of hours phone line staffed by social workers to give help and guidance
  • A buddy scheme to give you support from experienced foster carers
  • Regular social events with other carers
  • Local carer support groups
  • Online portal with access to information, resources and training

Training

Before you are approved as a foster carer, you will need to undergo some training locally to develop the skills you need to look after children and young people.

We encourage our approved foster carers to take as much training as they can, and offer a range of development opportunities to help you learn new skills.
